Introduction
MME’s Functional Skills exams are open to anyone interested in taking a Functional Skills Level 2 qualification. Functional Skills Level 2 exams in Maths and English are available with MME and these qualifications are suitable alternatives to GCSEs. Achieving a Functional Skills Level 2 qualification in Maths and English is equivalent to a grade 4/C at GCSE in these subjects. Functional Skills Exams
The Functional Skills Level 2 exams are here to give you the opportunity to gain qualifications that open doors to University, apprenticeships, and employment. This includes employment with major UK organisations such as the police, the NHS, and QTLS teaching, alongside many others. The Functional Skills are regulated by Ofqual and approved by the UK government
MME offers Functional Skills Level 2 exams that can be completed remotely under online invigilation via webcam. MME’s exams also have no specific entry requirements and can be sat Monday to Saturday, year round. This makes MME’s exams some of the most flexible available.
Functional Skills Maths Level 2 Exam
The Functional Skills exam in Maths takes 2 hours. The first 30 minutes covers non-calculator assessments while the last 90 minutes covers calculator assessments. The exam is made up of the following 3 core areas:
— Using Numbers: Consisting of the building blocks of maths, with calculations involving decimals, fractions and percentages.
— Common Measures, Shape and Space: Expanding on the skills in Using Numbers and applying them to real world scenarios, covering topics such as ratio, compound growth, and volumes of 3D shapes.
—Handling Information and Data: Testing your understanding of data across topics such as finding the mean, probability, and interpreting scatter graphs.

Functional Skills English Level 2 Exam
The exams in English involve: a 1 hour reading exam, a 1 hour writing exam, and a 1 hour speaking, listening & communicating exam. The exams cover:
— Writing: Assesses your ability to write clearly and effectively, with the correct grammar, spelling and punctuation.
— Reading: Assesses your analysis of different abstracts or texts, focusing on their language, structure, and presentational features, while discussing a number of sources.
— Speaking, listening and communication: A group assessment with other learners via video call, assessing your ability to effectively communicate, speak, and listen.
