Ways to get prepared

With everyone having their own way of learning, it can be difficult to suggest a ‘one size fits all’ way to revise. This is why we are going to give you some different suggestions for how you can be prepared for your exams starting in May. These are just a few of the ways we recommend:

Craft a Study Schedule

It can be really useful to create a revision timetable to help keep track of what your are revising and when. Make sure the schedule you make is manageable and realistic so that you are able to stick to it.

Organising Your Revision Materials

With so many different subjects, it can be difficult to keep all your notes and materials organised. It is important to try as much as you can to keep everything separate, try to organise your subject material by paper. For example, organise your chemistry materials by paper 1 and paper 2 so you know what material is assessed on which paper.

Practice Time Management

Develop strong time management skills by practicing answering questions under exam time limits. This will help you get used to how long you should spend on each question, as well as how to be concise with your answers, while still achieving full marks.

Varied Revision Techniques

Utilise a range of revision techniques such as mind maps, diagrams, and visual aids. This will help you to better retain the information as you have not read text. Regular self-testing reinforces memory and enhances understanding. Try and tailor your revision to how you learn best. So if you are a visual learner, watch videos of someone going through the material and practice questions. Or if you are a kinaesthetic then make flashcards or a mind map.

Staying Positive

It may not feel like it but GCSEs are not the be all and end all! While it is important to do your best, try not to apply unnecessary pressure to yourself. Cultivate a positive mindset and believe in your abilities. Manage stress through relaxation techniques, deep breathing, and mindfulness exercises.
