Flash cards are a good way to learn as they provide small digestible amounts of information with worked examples so that you can see how each method works. The Pass Functional Skills cards explain how a topic works before showing worked examples to help reinforce understanding. After each topic you learn there is a practice question to test your skills. This process of learning then using active recall to test your knowledge has been shown to be very effective.

You can use your flash cards in different ways to help support your learning. The following are just a few examples of how to use them:

1. Learn each topic from start to finish – You can use the cards to comprehensively cover the course, but we would advise some exam paper practice to help support this work.
2. Quick fire revision – If you have a spare 10 minutes you can work through a card and cover a topic at a time.
3. Highlight your weak areas – Split the cards into 2 piles, topics you feel confident with and those you need to work on.
4. Mix it up – Revise topics in different orders and test your knowledge with questions without looking at the notes.
